After three years of Wastebuster
certification and re-certification, schools are eligible to
maintain their Wastebuster status by completing a comprehensive
project to tackle a specific waste issue at school. Completion
of this special Wastebusters project, which must be pre-approved
by CCCSWA, will earn schools a $1,000 cash reward for each year
that they re-certify.
Sample acceptable projects include:
- Reducing lunch waste (i.e. switching to
reusable lunch trays, minimizing school food packaging, and
composting food waste)
- Developing a comprehensive composting
project (i.e. composting all student food waste and leftover
kitchen scraps)
- Establishing a comprehensive paper
reduction project (i.e. distributing newsletters and other
paperwork electronically to parents and staff, and creating
on-line forms)
- Developing a Wastebusters curriculum
- Instituting a purchasing policy for
environmentally preferable products
To re-certify your school as a Wastebuster,
