What services are included in the rates? 

• Weekly garbage collection,

• Weekly recycling collection, #1-5 and #7,

• Weekly yard waste collection,

• On-call pickups for yard waste and paper recycling (up to one per month),

• 2 Reuse Days per year,

• 3 Garbage Cleanup Days per year (2 community-wide days and 1 on-call pickup),

• Commercial Food Waste Program,

• Weekly Food Scrap collection (Orinda, Lafayette, Moraga),

• Weekly used motor oil pick-ups at curbside, and

• Home composting, school, public education, and other programs.

How can I lower my bill? 

1. By switching to a smaller garbage cart.  For example, residents using a standard 32-gallon cart can switch to a 20-gallon cart, and residents using a 64-gallon cart can switch to a 32-gallon cart. Commercial accounts can switch to a smaller service cart and save money as well.  
2. By composting at home and certifying for a home compost discount with the CCCSWA. Residents can go to our website to register and learn more about composting.  Discount is $1.50/month ($18/year).

How do rates today compare with rates 10 years ago?

 

Current rates are slightly higher compared to 1996 rates. New service contracts started in 1996, lowering rates initially. However, there has been a slight annual increase of rates in the years following. 

 

How do our rates compare to rates in other places?

 

Even with rate increases, our residential rates are lower than the average rates in other Bay Area jurisdictions with similar services.  Orinda’s rates are slightly above the average because Orinda has challenging terrain that makes collection more costly.
