1/19/13 and 9/7/13 Vermicomposting & Bin Building Workshops: For CCCSWA service area residents only. $10.00 per household to attend. Workshop includes two hours of instruction, all bin materials and worms. Please mail $10.00 registration payment to the CCCSWA at 1850 Mt. Diablo Blvd., Suite 320, Walnut Creek CA 94596. Advanced Workshop: For those interested in learning about organic gardening, good soil, environmentally responsible ways to control pests, conserving water in the garden and using native and drought-tolerant plants.
CCCSWA Instructors:
Billi Haug received her Master Gardener certification in 1997 and served as vice president of the Contra Costa Master Gardener Association in 1997/98.In 1998, she received her certification to be a public speaker for the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program, sponsored by the Central Contra Costa Sanitary District. In May, 2006 she completed her advanced composting certification. She holds several talks on Healthy Gardening, Integrated Pest Management and gives Home Composting workshops throughout the community each season. She is an enthusiastic home gardener and enjoys sharing the pleasures of easy gardening the natural way.
Linda Mizes A graduate of the University of Chicago, Linda pursued a career teaching administrative medicine, retired and became a Master Gardener for Contra Costa County, then became certified as a Master Composter. She has been composting since the late 1970’s. Currently she is the School Garden Coordinator for the Master Gardeners helping to establish school gardens throughout the county. Since 2001, she has managed two school gardens and more recently, a lunch composting program at Orinda Intermediate School. In 2005, she wrote and produced a composting instructional video “Compost Cooks” intended for an elementary and middle school audience. She has been awarded Orinda’s William Penn Mott, Jr. Environmental Award for her work at OIS and Miramonte High School. She is currently working on a book about composting in California.
