Builder's Guide
to Reuse & Recycling
The Contra Costa Builder's Guide to Reuse and Recycling is a directory that was
developed to help Bay Area builders, contractors, and residents reuse and
recycle construction and demolition materials.
In 1989, the State of California mandated that all cities reduce landfilled
waste by 50% in the year 200 and beyond. Despite increased recycling throughout
California, landfilled waste continues to grow, largely due to increased
construction activities.
To encourage C&D recycling, many cities throughout Contra Costa County have
implemented C&D debris recycling ordinances. These ordinances require
contractors and builders to divert between 50% and 75% of their job debris from
the landfill.
This directory contains valuable information on recycling C&D debris that could
assist you with city ordinance compliance, reduce the disposal of valuable
resources and save you money! For optimal recycling, call the companies before
your construction or demolition project begins.
