Getting
Started
Before you start collecting recyclables, you will need to
find a way to recycle the material. Most businesses utilize a CCCSWA service
area
permitted commercial recycling transporter. We
suggest that you call at least 3 recyclers and compare their services and prices
to find the hauler that best suits your needs. Below are questions that we
suggest you ask them about possible recycling service.
*Please note that non-permitted recycling
transporters are not allowed to collect recyclables in the CCCSWA's service
area, and therefore using them is strongly discouraged.
-
What materials will they pick up? Must you have a minimum
amount of material before they will collect it?
-
Will they pick up on a regular schedule? How often?
-
Will they pay for your materials? How much? Are the
prices fixed or floating? Will they charge a fee for picking up your
recyclables?
-
Will the materials require any preparation, such as
crushing or baling? If so, will the vendor supply any of the necessary
equipment?
-
Will they provide collection containers?
-
What are the contamination specifications? For instance,
if a restaurant recycles glass food containers, must they be washed? Or must
the glass be color sorted? If an office intends to recycle high grade paper,
how much mixed or low grade paper is considered a contaminant?
-
Do they provide confidential destruction of documents?
-
Do they have references?
-
Will they conduct a waste evaluation for your business?
Free of charge or at what cost?
Note that you may have to pay to have low-value materials
picked up. However, you will still save money since disposal costs are generally
higher than the cost to have a recycler pick up your recyclables.
