In what sizes are the garbage containers available?

You have a choice of a 20, 32, 64 or 96-gallon wheeled cart. A 20-gallon cart has about two-thirds the volume of a regular garbage cart; its outside dimensions are the same as a 32-gallon cart with an insert. Each size is a different rate.

Are there color options for the carts?

No, there are no color options. The garbage cart is blue, the yard clippings cart is green, and the recycling split cart is burgundy.

Do you have any suggestions for keeping the raccoons and other animals out of these containers?

A bungee cord may work well, but it will need to be removed before your garbage, recycling or yard clippings cart is serviced.

Do I have to pay separately for the garbage, recycling and yard clippings carts?

No, these carts are being provided to you at no additional cost by Allied Waste Services and Valley Waste Management.

What if I find that the garbage cart size is wrong for me?

Allied Waste Services will exchange your garbage cart for you, however, there is a limit of 2 free exchanges of containers per year.

What should I do if my compactor bag won’t fit in a 32-gallon cart?

You may want to consider a 64-gallon cart. Often times, compacted trash will reform and fit in a 32-gallon cart. If, however, you are unable to fit your trash bag within a 32-gallon cart, you will need to use a larger cart.

If my container should somehow become damaged, will it be replaced or fixed for free?

Yes, Allied Waste Services will replace or fix your garbage cart; Valley Waste Management will replace or fix your recycling and yard clippings carts.

Where should I place the carts?

Carts should be placed at the curb or street side, easily accessible by the Allied Waste Services and Valley Waste Management trucks with wheels and handle against the curb. There must be sufficient distance between carts, approximately 2 ft., to allow the mechanical arm of the automated truck to grab hold of the carts.

What if there is no room for the carts, or my road is too steep?

If you have difficulty placing carts at the curb or street side, you can call Allied Waste Services at 603-1144 or Valley Waste Management at 935-8900 and an operations supervisor will assist you. You can also request stacking recycling crates from Valley Waste Management that are smaller and can be placed in the trunk of a car.

There is no room on my street for everyone to set out all 3 containers. What should we do?

Contact Allied Waste Management at 603-1144 and ask for an operations supervisor who will work with you to find a solution.

What if I can’t wheel the carts to the curb or street side because of a physical disability?

If you can’t wheel the carts to the curb or street side because of a physical disability, Allied Waste Services and Valley Waste Management will accommodate you. However, you will need to send a letter to Allied Waste Services signed by your physician informing them of your disability.

Can I use my own garbage can if I want to?

No, automated collection service will not work with the old style of garbage cans. You must use the carts provided by the companies.
