Mini-Grant Program 
2000 Recipients

The following received CCCSWA Mini-grants in 2000 to help fund innovative projects that will increase individual and community involvement in waste prevention efforts, decrease the amount of waste sent to landfills, and encourage the development, marketing and use of recycled products. Congratulations!

  1. Camino Pablo Elementary School, was awarded $5,000 to implement a school-wide worm composting and garden project to complement its existing recycling programs in efforts to make the school virtually waste-free.

  2. Chung-Hay Luk, president of Campolindo High School's Earth Club, received $300 to purchase 20 recycling containers and contribute to the purchase of an educational display board.

  3. Educational Escapades, was awarded $4,900 to provide fourteen customized environmental education assembly performances at elementary schools in the CCCSWA's service area.

  4. Foothill Middle School ECK Club, received $600 to purchase ten can crushers and bags to improve the efficiency and cleanliness of the school's recycling program and possibly allow it to collect cardboard and plastic for recycling.

  5. Project Create, East Bay Depot for Creative Reuse, was awarded $4,995.45 to fund a Waste Reduction Education Program for activities that include curriculum development, teacher training, in-class presentations, and training middle school students to organize a Reuse Extravaganza for elementary school students in 8 classrooms in the CCCSWA service area.

  6. Project: Team Work, received grant funds for two separate projects. Project: Team Work is a non-profit organization which provides "hands-on" job training and employment development for needy residents and "at-risk" youth.

    1. Job Site Construction and Demolition (C&D) Debris Recovery - received $5,000 for clerical assistance and supplies to further jobsite recycling and reuse of C&D materials.

    2. Generating Collaborative Markets - was awarded $5,000 for clerical assistance and supplies to grow marketing/reuse network for C&D materials, including web-based exchange.

  7. San Damiano Retreat Center, received $1,000 to purchase a chipper/shredder to increase composting program efficiency and green waste diversion.

  8. St. Mary Elementary School, was awarded $1,700 for recycling containers and funding for one year of recycling collection service with the provision that it continue to support the collection after funding expires.

  9. Volunteers for Inter-American Development Assistance (VIDA), received $4,982 to fund diversion of 25 tons of medical supplies from Contra Costa health facilities to Latin America.


     
  10. Walnut Acres Elementary School Student Council, received $573.90 to purchase recycling containers and wagons to transport them to support the Student Council's paper-recycling program.
