Mini-Grant Program
2001 Recipients
The following received CCCSWA Mini-grants in 2001 to help fund innovative projects that will increase individual and community involvement in waste prevention efforts, decrease the amount of waste sent to landfills, and encourage the development, marketing and use of recycled products. Congratulations!
- Earthcapades (formerly Educational Escapades), was awarded $6,300
to provide fourteen customized environmental education assembly performances at
elementary schools in the CCCSWA's service area selected by the CCCSWA.
- Hospice of Contra Costa Foundation
was awarded $20,000 to expand its on-call reusable goods collection
complementing the CCCSWA's Reuse and Cleanup Days.
- Joaquin Moraga Intermediate School Leadership
Recycling Program, received $5,000 to purchase recycling containers
and supplies to support the leadership club's recycling collection.
- Northgate High School ECK Club, was
awarded $4,970 to purchase additional sturdy recycling and garbage containers
for high traffic areas, the shed, and assembly and promotional posters to
strengthen this recycling program that the CCCSWA originally funded in 1999.
TRG & Associates is also working with Northgate to improve its program.
- Orinda-Moraga Fire District, in
partnership with the City of Orinda and Town of Moraga, received $8,000 towards
the purchase of a chipper that will make mulch from vegetation cleared from
residences and public right-of-ways for fire safety. Residents will be
encouraged to keep the material generated from their yards and a list of local
mulch sites is being prepared for materials that are not used on residents'
property. These sites include local watershed areas and parks. The
fire district's existing annual brush removal campaign will publicize the
chipper to residents.
- Project Create, East Bay Depot for Creative Reuse, was awarded $5,217.45 to fund
curriculum, teacher training, presentations, and a Reuse Extravaganza to be
conducted in coordination with the CCCSWA school recycling program.
