Mini-Grant Program
2002 Recipients
The following received CCCSWA Mini-grants in 2002 to help fund innovative projects that will increase individual and community involvement in waste prevention efforts, decrease the amount of waste sent to landfills, and encourage the development, marketing and use of recycled products. Congratulations!
- Northgate Bronco Boosters
was awarded $8,255.00
for recycled-content site equipment (dugout benches, signage, and recycling
receptacles) for the Castle Rock Field Restoration project.
- GarageTech
received $2,400 to
remanufacture 20 computer systems from discarded computers at the CCCSWA's
Danville E-waste collection event for donation to Contra Costa's Living Skills
Program.
- Lafayette Elementary School
was
awarded $475.00 and three Biostack composting bins for completion of the
school's wildlife habitat composting program.
- Moraga Garden's
was awarded $5,000 to
expand its Community-Supported Agriculture (CSA) program that collects
woodchips, newspapers, coffee grounds, spoiled straw and food waste from local
businesses for composting, distributing finished compost and garden grown items
to CSA members.
- Sustainable Agriculture Education (SAGE)
received a $3,000 contribution for its "Open Garden Day" that celebrates and
promotes Bay Area community gardens including those in Contra Costa County that
actively compost. SAGE will produce a map and website depicting these Bay
Area gardens.
- The CCCSWA Board earmarked $28,000 from Mini-grant funds for its pilot
"Waste Busters" School Certification Program
that provides incentives to motivate school site personnel to increase recycling
and reduce waste.
