Mini-Grant Program
2006 Recipients
The following received CCCSWA Mini-grants in 2006 to help fund innovative projects that will increase individual and community involvement in waste prevention efforts, decrease the amount of waste sent to landfills, and encourage the development, marketing and use of recycled products. Congratulations!
- Athenian School
received $2,362.11 for purchasing a bottle and can
recycling container station. The station allowed for the separation of cans,
bottles, and plastic so the containers could be redeemed. The redemption money
is donated to local environmental organizations.
- City of Orinda
was awarded #3,175 to be used
for providing recycling in parks and sports fields.
- DR3
received $10,000 to purchase book recycling deposit bins.
- Earth Team
was awarded $4,000 to produce a 1/2 hour episode of a
newsmagazine. This was produced by students and the main topic was waste
reduction and recycling. A Contra Costa TV studio was donated for the project.

Joaquin Moraga Middle School
received $5,000 to purchase reusable lunch
containers. These containers replaced the StyrofoamTM
that had been used before.

Moraga School District
was awarded $4,198.00 to purchase recycling containers for
athletic fields. One container was placed at each elementary school and two at
middle schools.

Orinda Union School District
received $4,597.00 to introduce
recycling in manageable modules throughout the school district. Projects
included single-stream recycling, composting, intensive education of students,
parents, and staff.

San Ramon Valley High School
was awarded $6,995.13. The grant was used to purchase recycled content purchase
picnic tables, recycling containers, a native plant demonstration, and a
sustainability mural.
Sustainable Moraga - Marie
Kahn received $530.00 to help their local battery collection and
recycling program. These funds were used to purchase additional recycling
containers and also to publicize the program.

The Gardens at Heather Farms
was awarded $2,610.00 to purchase outdoor recycling
receptacles.

Town of Danville
received $3,200 to purchase recycling containers to be used for special events.

Walnut Creek Intermediate School
was awarded $3,431.14. They used the money to purchase compostable lunch trays
and equipment.
