Staples Stores in Contra Costa to Accept Old
Computers for Presidents’ Day
Staples Stores will take back old computers for reuse and recycling
on February 17th and 18th. Staples, which operates more
than 1,400 "superstores" for office supplies, will accept computer equipment for
reuse and recycling at its stores nationwide this Sunday, February 17 and
Monday, February 18 (Presidents' Day). In Contra Costa County, you can bring
your old computer equipment to the Staples Stores in Pleasant Hill, San Ramon,
Pittsburg, Pinole, and El Cerrito on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Monday
from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Individuals and businesses can bring in their old
computer equipment, including monitors and hard drives. There is no charge for
this service. Through a partnership with Gifts in Kind International,
computers will be refurbished and given to children's organizations in
communities across the country. Computers that are unable to be rebuilt will be
recycled responsibly to generate reusable materials. People who bring in a
complete computer system (including hard drive, monitor, mouse, and keyboard) to
Staples during this event can receive a $100 savings on a new computer with an
Intel Pentium 4 processor, or $20 off a purchase of $100 or more for other
Staples products purchased during those two days.
To confirm whether they will accept a certain type of computer equipment
(especially anything unusual), individuals can call the Pleasant Hill store at
691-4060 or the San Ramon store at 552-1960.

Note: Mark your calendars
for April 20th if you cannot make the Staples event or have other electronic
items you would like to recycle at no charge. The Central Contra Costa Solid
Waste Authority and the Central Contra Costa Sanitary District will hold a
combined electronics and household hazardous waste collection event in Danville
on Saturday, April 20 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will be open to residents
of Contra Costa County only. Call 1-800-207-8222 to schedule an appointment.
