RESOLUTION OF THE [SCHOOL DISTRICT] COMMITTING TO THE IMPLEMENTATION AND MAINTENANCE OF A COMPREHENSIVE DISTRICT-WIDE RECYCLING PROGRAM AND [OPTIONAL] AUTHORIZING THE CENTRAL CONTRA COSTA SOLID WASTE AUTHORITY, IN ACCORDANCE WITH ITS MISSION, TO PROVIDE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO THE SCHOOL SITES

    WHEREAS, the legislature of the State of California has enacted the California Integrated Waste Management Act mandating Cities and Counties to reduce the 1990 waste amount disposed in landfills by 25% in the year 1995 and 50% in the year 2000 and after; and

    WHEREAS, the [SCHOOL DISTRICT'S] schools contribute to the amount of waste generated, and either disposed or recycled in the City/Town, thereby affecting the ability of the City/Town of [CITY LOCATED] to meet the State-mandated goals; and

    WHEREAS, the [SCHOOL DISTRICT] supports resource conservation and manages its waste by subscribing to the integrated waste management hierarchy "Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle"; and WHEREAS, the [SCHOOL DISTRICT] believes it should set an example of natural resource stewardship and help develop responsible citizenship in the students; and

    WHEREAS, the [SCHOOL DISTRICT] believes it can save money by increasing recycling and reducing its garbage container sizes and/or its frequency of service; and [Optional]

    WHEREAS, the [SCHOOL DISTRICT] would like CCCSWA's technical support to implement or/or enhance its current program.

    NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the [SCHOOL DISTRICT] encourages its District offices, school sites, and other facilities to "Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle" to the greatest extent possible.

SAMPLE WASTE REDUCTION AND RECYCLING POLICY

    It is the policy of the [DISTRICT] to promote resource conservation and manage its waste by subscribing to the integrated waste management hierarchy "Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle". This policy provides that the District will actively focus its efforts to reduce its waste stream and integrate the resource conservation concept into the District's curriculum in order to set an example of natural resource stewardship and responsible citizenship to our students.
